Family Photos Through the Chaos

“It’s amazing to have photos of this moment in time. Of our love and connection through the chaos. These pictures are so good. And they’re so important. And I can’t talk about it much more or I’m going to cry.”

Melissa texted me when I delivered her image gallery and she’d had a chance to look through them. She’s in the thick of it with a full-time, high demand job, a pre-teen, and a 6 month old. “Chaos” is right. Even before Melissa was promoted at work, she was always on the go, and with the new title came more responsibility and more things to manage. “Busy” doesn’t start to describe it. This is one of the reasons why Melissa joined the APP Family Membership. One of the perks is that I reach out to members to schedule annual family sessions, instead of clients needing to remember to contact me each year.

So I hounded her a bit in the middle of summer (her busiest season at work) to get six month photos of her baby boy, and to document their time together as a family before they breezed right into fall and winter.

Getting your family out the door for anything on Saturday morning is hard. Getting a teething 6 month old who doesn’t want to eat breakfast out the door, and a preteen out the door, and your partner and yourself out the door, for anything, is harder. Getting all of those people out the door in photo-appropriate outfits to go to a park on a steamy summer morning is HARD. And then (obviously) the 6 month old will blow out his diaper within 5 minutes of the session starting. Good thing Melissa brought an extra outfit.

So yeah, chaos. Life with a baby is pure chaos. You prepare to take a deep breath and before you can release it, the baby needs to nurse or needs a new diaper. You feel like you’re pulled in every direction at once, except inwardly.

But you love your family more than anything, and you know you’re connecting with them more than it seems. You just need proof. Proof of your “love and connection through the chaos.”

Life is chaotic, but still so full of love. If you are a returning client (maternity, newborn, family, or even surprise proposal), and want me to remind you when it’s time to do your annual photos instead of having to remember yourself, you can jump on the waitlist for the APP Family Membership, which opens every February. (Not a client yet? Family sessions are here.)
