A Limited Series: Holiday Porchraits

Ready or not, here they come…

Your family, I mean. The family you see once a year at holidays, where you may remember to take a photo together before someone has to leave. But the rushed photo you grab is more proof of life, rather than proof of love. If only you had someone who could come over and take a few photos of the group… maybe with Grandma and the grandkids… just on the front porch. Nothing fancy. No coordinated outfits. Just 15 minutes of chaos and love.

If only.

If only your favorite photographer was doing her own family Thanksgiving celebrations earlier in the week and had Thanksgiving available to come to your house.

If only.

May I present… 2022 Holiday Porchraits.

Holiday Porchraits include a 15 minute photo session and 15 high resolution, edited images with a print release. Sessions will take place on your front porch or in your yard (some porches are small, let's be honest), and the images will be delivered via online gallery by the end of Small Business Saturday (November 26), in time for you to take advantage of print sales happening that weekend. You could feasibly get all of your holiday gifts done before you run out of turkey leftovers.

Stipulations:

  • The porch needs to be within 30 miles of 23237

  • The time you choose must be between 9am and 4pm on Thanksgiving

That's it. Those are the only stipulations. Make your group as big or as small as you like. Wear whatever you like. Include friends who are family if you like.

I'm opening four two Holiday Porchrait spots - two on Thanksgiving (11/24), two on Black Friday (11/25). (I opened them first for my email list, and the Friday spots went like hotcakes. So now there are two available spots on Thanksgiving. Go here to sign up for the email list so you can get first dibs next time, too.)

Holiday Porchrait FAQs:

HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN WE INCLUDE?

As many people as you like! We will have 15 minutes together to take as few or as many photos as you like. I like to start with a big group photo and then break down the family units, or do groups like all the kids, etc, but the configuration will be your choice.

WHAT IF WE CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING WITH FRIENDS?

Sounds fun! I am not here to police your celebration or tell you that your friends aren't family. You'll have full control over who is in the photos during our short time together.

HOW MANY IMAGES WILL WE GET FROM OUR SESSION?

I promise a minimum of 15 images in your gallery. If I deliver more than 15 images in your gallery, you can download your favorite 15, and will have the opportunity to purchase additional images in the gallery if you choose.

WHAT IF WE WANT TO SPLIT THE COST OF THE SESSION?

Sounds smart to me; if there are several of you there, you could easily split the cost and give each other gifts from the session (or have the session be the gift). I'm going to let you all work that out on your own, though. I will work with one person, the Designated Client, who will be in charge of signing the contract, paying the invoice to secure your session, and disseminating the gallery link to everyone who wants it afterwards. If you're reading this, you're likely the Designated Client. (Congratulations!)

WHAT IF WE HAVE BAD WEATHER?

We'll have a couple of options: if the weather is spotty, we may be able to move the time earlier or later to avoid precipitation. If it's raining all day, and you'd like to postpone from Thursday to Friday, we can likely do that (depending on timing and Friday's weather). If moving the time is not an option, we can get creative with cover or move indoors. If none of those are possible we will cancel and I will refund your session fee or apply the session fee to a future session (your choice).

WHAT IF WE HAVE TO CANCEL FOR ILLNESS?

This wouldn't be the first time a family holiday gets canceled because half of the group is sick, and it's a bummer every. time. If you're planning to reschedule your festivities for another day in the near future, I'll honor your new date if at all possible. If not, I will refund your session fee or apply the session fee to a future session (your choice).

PS: Love this concept, but planning to be out of town for Thanksgiving this year? Send this post to an RVA friend who might love this too!
