5 Non-Cheesy Photo Gift Ideas
Yay! You were on the ball this year and managed to get family photos in time to make gifts for your loved ones. Now, what to make? You don't want to just throw a handful of 4x6 prints at them to hang on the fridge. A fleece throw with your kid’s face printed six feet by 4 feet is probably not the gift for you, either. What can you do?
I have ideas!
Holiday ornament
It’s a simple, easy, less expensive option. If you’re worried about trying to match someone’s decor, this is an easy one because they’re probably going to put it away in January. You can find customizable ornaments at Shutterfly, Artifact Uprising, and Minted, among other places.
Calendar
This is another pretty easy option that allows you to choose 12 photos and not worry about matching decor. Perfect for when you’re fully incapable of choosing just one great photo. Calendars come in all shapes and sizes; from wall calendars to desk calendars. I gifted clients one of these from Artifact Uprising a few years ago.
Mounted 5x7” desk print
Simple and modern, without taking up a lot of space, this is a walnut colored wooden base and a 5x7” print mounted on black styrene to keep it rigid in the base. It sits perfectly on a desk or bookshelf. I sell these in my shop by buying the base and the print separately and putting them together for clients myself.
Bamboo print
Bamboo prints are bigger, more substantial gifts, and will stick around long after the holidays. They come with a keyhole in the back so they’re ready to hang, and can be incorporated into an existing gallery, or are substantial enough to sit alone on the wall. These are in my shop as well, but you can find something similar in an acrylic style from MixBook.
Photo Book
Last but not least, photo books are a great gift! You can make them practically anywhere, with photos you already have at home, and gift them to anyone from babies and toddlers (board books!) to your partner (aww, look at our kids), to grandparents (you’ll be the favorite child for sure). You can make books at Artifact Uprising, Mixbook, Blurb, Cluster, Chatbooks, etc.
And if you think that’s a great idea but you can’t wrap your head around that for this year, sign up for a Yearbook and get it done for next year.
