Somewhere Between the Raindrops
It started sprinkling as I drove the short distance from my house to Harry Daniel Park. Uh oh. I don’t mind overcast days for outdoor photography sessions. In fact, sometimes they’re the absolute best. But rain and camera gear don’t really mix well, and rain and babies don’t really mix well either.
Thankfully, the raindrops petered out before my clients arrived, and we wandered through the open areas of the park first, just in case.
This was our second photo session in just over 3 months, and I couldn’t believe how much this baby girl had changed since our newborn photography session in April. While she slept for most of that session, she was bright (blue) eyed and happy to be here on this Monday morning. Especially when her daddy started making faces for her and her mama gave her smushie kisses. We had scheduled our session to avoid her nap time as much as possible (a challenge with a 3 month old, but not impossible), and it seemed to have worked perfectly.
We wandered under the trees, and were walking along the path when the rain started again. We paused under a picnic shelter just long enough for a diaper change, and then ventured out again under the trees. The best part about big leafy trees though, we didn’t feel any of the drops as we finished up our time together and started toward the parking lot. We could have held a whole session in the rain after all, if we had stayed under the big canopy of leaves. I’m glad we didn’t have to experiment with that too much, but it’s nice to know it would have worked out.
Megan and Nick, thank you for meeting with me at a new (to you) park, and for braving the rain with me. I hope you love your family photos!
If you’re interested in your own outdoor family photos, scheduling around naps is a must with a baby. Contact me to talk through your own complicated schedule, and let’s see how we can work together.
