Project 365: May’s End of an Era
I’m not in school anymore, but the end of May marks a full year of my 365 project, and I’ll admit that after toting my camera everywhere on our vacation at the beginning of the month, I limped across the finish line at the end of the month. I think it was partly getting back into the routine of being home, and feeling less than inspired at the same-same-sameness of the daily grind and our environment. It was also a touch of senioritis, as I got to the unofficial end of my project. I mean, how many different ways can you photograph your child watching their iPad (don’t judge me for letting them watch an iPad, we all have our own coping mechanisms, some are healthier than others)?
So I may have missed a day here and there as we got to the end of May. I may have even missed a day without realizing that I had missed it. But the things that this project have showed me over the past year have really been eye-opening for me. That I CAN find new and different ways to photograph the same subjects. That light is so important. And that if I don’t do something with the photos now, does it even count that I took them? So I’m setting a goal to have the first draft of photos chosen for a photo book by the end of June. And in true Allison fashion, I’m already a week behind. But if I shout my intentions into the internet void, someone’s bound to care, right? And if nothing else, I’ll know that I’ve set the goal and won’t want to disappoint myself, since I’ve said it in public.
I’ve got a few saved so far. Just 205 of my favorites. I’m aiming for 500 for the finished book, which means the first draft will likely have somewhere around 1500…
Guess I better get started. I’ll report back with progress.
Am I talking to my diary now?
