Home Away from Home
We left our house last week and went to someone else's (empty) house for a whole week. It was the first time I'd been out of Virginia since 2018. The first time we'd been away from home since my daughter was born.
We went to what I like to consider my home away from home. I took my kids to OBX and we played on the beach and in the water. We went to the Wright Brother's Memorial (the hill is deceptively steep) and the aquarium, which was basically vacant. It was amazing having the whole place to ourselves, though I hope their business picks up because I need them to be there again next year when we come back.
Bodie Island lighthouse is another favorite of mine, and I'm glad we got to visit before the remnants of Sally hemmed us into the house and away from the bullet sand and driving rain.
I loved this visit because my son is finally starting to recognize places we go and things we do. Last year we went to VA Beach early in the year because I was pregnant and tired, and in 2018 he was only 9 months old. It was hard for him to get excited about any of the things we did. This year was a whole new ballgame though, and it was fun to see him yell "SHARK!!!" in the aquarium and experiment with eating sand.
I hope you're able to get away from your regularly-scheduled program this year, even if it's just for a minute to reset. A change of scenery did us all a lot of good.
