Consider Summer for Family Photos

Most family clients book me with Fall in mind. School is starting, the leaves are changing, and suddenly people realize they haven’t had a family photo taken yet this year. So, Fall is the busiest season for family photography in Richmond. (Newborn and maternity photography happens year-round, for obvious reasons.)

But consider summer. Don’t think about the heat and the work project you have to do. Remember the summers of your youth, when summer was lazy, with less on the schedule and more hanging out at home with not much to do. Slip on those rose-colored glasses and think about sunscreen and lemonade, bike rides at the park and cannon balls in the pool. Wouldn’t it be great to have some photos of your family enjoying some of that slow, no-school, hanging-out time?

(But summers in Richmond are SO HOT). I know. Summers in RVA are gross. Humid and sticky and full of mosquitos. That’s why I have a proposal for you. If you have very small children, who get up with the sun and are ready to go at 7am, let’s do an early morning session. Outside in the early morning light, before the sun burns off the morning dew and makes the air so thick you can swim in it. I know some places we can go to capitalize on that early morning quiet.

If you have kids who don’t go to bed before sundown, let’s have an evening session. Let’s go for an after-dinner walk as the sun meets that late-day summer haze and creates pretty golden light to play in. I have a list of locations that work beautifully for late evening sessions, including your own neighborhood.

If you hate both of those ideas, let’s play inside. Consider letting me come over for an hour of playtime in your home, while you enjoy a lazy morning with your kids and remember what Summer is supposed to be. Slow, easy, full of light and play.

If you’re interested in a Saturday summer session, whether it’s first thing in the morning or late in the evening outside, or inside on a hot summer day, here are the weekend dates I have available. If Saturdays are your busiest day of the week and you’d prefer to grab a weekday spot, I have those as well. Hit me up and let’s talk. (Also, if you’re interested in getting a headstart on booking when I open my calendar in the future, like for the very popular Fall, consider signing up for my email list, because those folks hear about it first.)

  • Saturday, May 21

  • Saturday, June 4

  • Saturday, June 11

  • Saturday, July 9

  • Saturday, July 23

  • Saturday, July 30

To grab a session date, we’ll need to jump on a call to talk for 10-15 minutes about your photography needs and wants, and to make sure we’re a good fit for each other. So let’s get started: grab a spot on my calendar to chat!
